Camp Timberledge is nestled on 280-acres of woodland and lakes in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. This setting provides an intimate setting, close to nature, for small to mid-sized Christian retreats and meetings (60 guest capacity, May – October; 40 guest capacity, November – April).

Relaxation, Fellowship, and Recreation: Spend time in meditation, enjoy a good book, conversation, the warmth of a wood-burning fire and relaxing table games. Witness forest wildlife, trees, and flowers, experience lake fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. Explore portions of the three miles of well-marked hiking trails. Download our Trail Map. Enjoy mountain biking (bring your own bikes and safety equipment), cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. There is also basketball, softball, volleyball, and ping pong.

The 20 acre Timberledge Lake is well-stocked with pickerel, bass, catfish and bluegills, and is great for fishing. When the lake freezes each winter, guests can try ice fishing and ice skating. Fishing equipment is not provided. A Pennsylvania fishing license is required for guests age 16 and older. Check http://www.fish.state.pa.us/faqlice.htm#1 for license information.

The Delaware River, part of the National Park System, is a less than 6 miles away. Outfitters offer canoe, kayak and raft rentals for groups interested in a day of water adventure. Check www.landersrivertrips.com.

Retreat Facilities (see “Grounds & Facilities“)

Camp Center: The year-round retreat center includes a 2000 square-foot all-purpose area and balcony, with meeting and worship facilities for 100 and a dining area for 48. It includes three lounges, a warming kitchen – not designed for extensive cooking – five restrooms with showers and a large deck.

Lodging: The Camp Center provides lodging for 22 guests – three rooms, each with one queen bed; two rooms, each with two
queen beds; one room with two twin beds; and a two-bedroom apartment. Youth groups especially enjoy the overflow sleeping space in the all purpose area.

Food Service: Small groups, including those during the colder months may use the Camp Center kitchen. This is a warming kitchen and is not designed for extensive cooking. The camp does provide a limited item food service menu. Groups are welcome to provide their own food. Groups may choose to bring beverages, and some prepared food, use take-out (pizza,
sandwiches, meat and salad trays, etc.), or hire a local caterer. We would be glad to make recommendations. (See list of Restaurants and Caterers.)

Cabins: Three new cabins (two sleep 14 and one 16) are located near the restroom building and dining hall. All are heated and available spring, summer, and fall and with special arrangements, during winter.

Tents: Four 16-foot square tents mounted on wooden platforms, sleep 8. Tents are located near the cabins and restroom building.

Dining Hall: Includes a commercial kitchen, utensils, and a dining area that seats 75. It is available May – October and is not heated or winterized. Retreat groups prepare their own meals unless alternative arrangements are made. (See list of Food Vendors.)

Restroom Building: The restrooms with toilets and showers were recently remodeled and winterized and are available for use by those in tents and cabins.

Lean-to: This three-sided cabin sleeps eight. It is located in the forest near the high bridge waterfall, about ½ mile from the Camp Center. It does not have restroom facilities.

Shopping is convenient: Camp Timberledge is two miles from a country store, restaurants, a family fun park, driving range and laundromat. It is within six miles of supermarkets, Wal-Mart, specialty shops and a movie theater. Historic Honesdale and Hawley, each with its own charm, restaurants, boutiques, gift, and antique shops and golf courses, are within 15 minutes. Lake Wallenpaupack is 20 minutes away.

Rates: Camp Center – $20 per person with linens, $10, children 5-11, under 5, free.

Cabins, Tents, and Lean-to – $15 per person, without linens; $8, children 5-11; under 5, free.

July 29 – Aug 4, 2012
For youth entering grades 4 or 5 in Fall 2012

Designed for first time campers, this program is created to offer the young camper (entering grade 4 or 5 in the Fall) a carefully supervised experience with all the excitement that camping has to offer.

From morning reveille to taps at night, the camper is involved in age appropriate activities such as chapel, recreation, crafts, outdoor lore classes, fishing, boating, swimming, group bonfire with smores and an all camp bonfire and sharing.

This Christ-centered program will be a positive and life changing experience for the young, first-time camper.

About Your Junior Camp Director: Mary Hankins
Being born into a large family, and raised on a farm, offered Mary countless opportunities for hiking, camping, and leading her younger siblings on outdoor adventures. But it wasn’t until she was a parent herself, that Mary was first introduced to Camp Timberlegde. She then spent several summers as a Young Teen camp counselor.

In 2007, Mary took the reigns as Director for Junior Camp, shifting her 20-plus years of Sunday school teaching and youth ministry event planning into high-gear. Her passion for Camp Timberledge ensures that all young campers feel supported and are encouraged to thrive in what is for many, their first “sleep away” camping experience.

For youth entering grades 6 or 7 in Fall 2012

Designed for youth entering 6th and 7th grades in the fall, Intermediate campers should gear-up for the QUEST of a lifetime.

Being a Christian is an exciting adventure, albeit a challenging one. This year’s camp theme will explore the challenges and rewards of seeking Knighthood in the Kingdom of God. Our program is designed to help campers grow in their faith, nurture friendships, and have a week of fun they will remember for years to come!

About Your Intermediate Camp Director: Karyl Ropke
Growing up, Karyl spent countless weeks enrolled in sleep-away camp – including an annual stint at Camp Timberledge. Today, with more than fifteen years of leadership experience in youth programming, she is an avid believer in the positive role that summer camp programs can play in the development of youth. Her programs challenge young people to experience new activities, build lasting friendships and explore the role the Christian faith can play in their lives.

Karyl and her husband, Ben, are outdoor enthusiasts, hiking and kayaking around the globe. When not volunteering at Camp Timberledge, Karyl is Senior Vice President/Partner at Development Counselors International, the leader in marketing places.

July 22 – 28, 2012
For youth entering grades 8 or 9 in Fall 2012

Young Teen Camp is a week of programming tailored to campers entering the eighth and ninth grades in the fall. This week of camp features numerous outdoor experiences including an outdoor adventure day, chapel in the woods, and an overnight camp out. There are also opportunities to try acting, kayaking, rock climbing, and even producing a camp newspaper!

Since eighth and ninth graders are at a pivotal point in their lives, having their character shaped by the choices they make, the camping program is designed to take each camper out of his or her comfort zone and encourage them to focus on faith in Christ as the compass for their lives.

About Your Junior Camp Director: John and Jennifer Derochers
Beginning in grade school, John and Jennifer Derochers were involved in Christian camping, with Jenn attending Camp Timberledge in her youth. The couple even met while working for a Christian camp and conference center near Boston. After three years of employment there, they departed with countless ideas for programming which they now integrate into Young Teen Camp and the annual Young Teen Fall and Spring Youth Retreats on the camp premises.

When not working with the Camp Timberledge Young Teen program, John is a US Postal Letter Carrier and Jennifer is a full-time mom to their four sons, Seth, Gabriel, Nathan and Eli.

July 8 – 14, 2012
For students entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in Fall 2012 and 2012 High School graduates.

Senior Teen Camp is a week geared to high-school student entering tenth grade in the fall through graduating seniors.

While growing in the Christian faith is always the primary focus, the week is packed with contests, games, and recreation that challenge teens both mentally and physically. Directors, Jordan and Joy like to keep campers guessing, “What will they think of next?” That means each year’s program is bigger and better than the one before!

Senior Teen Camp provides an environment where all teens have an opportunity to participate, can be comfortable being themselves, and leave camp having taken one step closer to God. But the excitement doesn’t stop there!

Each summer, campers build strong relationships with each other, and often take a giant leap forward in establishing a real and relevant relationship with Jesus Christ. So in addition to Senior Teen Camp, there is an annual Fall and Spring Weekend Retreat on the camp grounds. This offers campers a chance to reconnect with friends made during the summer and recharge their spiritual life.

About Your Senior Teen Camp Directors: Joy and Jordan Martin
The Martin’s have many fond memories of Camp Timberledge from their camping days — from sleeping in tents, to singing in the old chapel. Having first met each other as campers here, it’s no surprise they eventually married on the shores of Timberledge Lake. But no memories compare with seeing teens who attend camp committing their lives to Jesus Christ.

When they are not planning or attending at camp event, Joy is a stay at home mom and Jordan is the Manager of System Administration at a youth crisis facility in Allentown, PA.
